July 4th Independence Day

We all like to watch colourful (not colorful!!) firework during Independence holiday and wish to have long weekend. Unfortunately this year it came on Saturday and worst next year in 2010 it's on Sunday but no need to worry we may have Friday/Monday as extra day off like this year. In all these excitement most of us don't want to dwell to history of this day and even don't think of asking Why we celebrate this day?

As it's name imply this is celebratation of indpendence but wait who rule over US? Most of us know US was discovered by Columbus but never heard anyone ruling over US like in India, African Coutries, Austraila and European countries. Yes like on most of these countries US was once govern by the Great Britain Parliment and Bristish monarch.

During 18th century American Revolution thirteen colonies of North America ( consist of Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, South Carolina, New Hampshire, Virginia, New York, North Carolina, Rhode Island) declare legal seperation from Great Britain on July 2, 1776. After voting for independence, Congress debate, revised and finally approve "Declaration of Independence" on July 4.

Independence Day is a national federal holiday so all non-essential federal institutions (like the postal service and federal courts) are closed on that day. Morning parades, display of American flags, and decoration with red, white and blue is common on this time around. Among them most attracting is evening fireworks. Major displays are held in New York on the East River or Hudson River, in Chicago on Lake Michigan, in San Diego over Mission Bay, in Boston on the Charles River, in St. Louis on the Mississippi River, and on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
